College Students on Break

Who We Serve

To locate students from low-income backgrounds, including first-generation-to-college, My Dorm Room partners with nonprofit organizations that have been selected for inclusion in Spur Local (formerly The Catalogue for Philanthropy), in either print or online, and serve low-income students including first-generation-to-college. These nonprofits undergo a rigorous program and financial review and a site visit  (Spur-Local).

We partner with Collegiate Directions, Inc. (CDI) in Montgomery County, First Generation College Bound (FGCB) in Prince Georges County, MD and College Bound (CB) in Washington, DC.

All of the students that My Dorm Room serves are eligible for free and reduced lunches.  According to the Department of Agriculture, the income eligibility  guidelines for the lunch program are intended to provide “a direct benefit to those children most in need…”.
